Dear Primary A Families,
We have had a busy, although short, week!
On Tuesday the Primary Unit went to the Kimmel Center to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra. We loved the program. We heard the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and learned about a musical motif. We listened to Grieg’s "The Hall of the Mountain King" and got to move our bodies in time to the escalating tempo. We heard a toreador sing an aria from the opera Carmen and capped it all off by dancing to a Brazilian carnival song, “Cidade Maravilhosa.”
In science we had a great time trying out the effect of wind on the anemometer that we teachers constructed out of paper cups and straws. The blowdryer we used really spun those cups around! We then constructed our own pinwheels and are using them to learn the ways we can see wind in action. We used them at The Schuylkill Center and found so many ways that they caught the wind and moved according to many variables. We also made kites and had the best time flying them.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow and Friday at conferences!
