Dear Primary A Families,
It was wonderful to see you at Back-to-School Night on Wednesday evening. We enjoyed sharing how we approach teaching and learning in our classroom. We hope you all have a clearer view of how your children spend their days, as well as how much social and academic growth your children will make in their two years in the Primary Unit. What makes this unit so special is that first grade parents can connect with second grade parents to get insight on how this works with two grades in one class. For those who did not make it to Back-to-School Night, we missed you and are sending a brief information sheet home with your child. Please be sure to check their backpacks for the sheet!
Even though it was a short week, Primary A students were busy. During their weekly visit to The Schuylkill Center an educator from The Center helped us explore air, temperature, and clouds. And today we took part in Shelly Ridge Day, spending the day at the school's former country classroom in family groups and participating in rotations of activities that included art, music, and games. We also carved out some time in the classroom to do lots of independent reading along with learning about good-fit books. As writers, we learned to sketch the beginning, middle, and end of a small moments story before we wrote the actual words. All in all, it was another week packed with learning and opportunities for growth!
This week, ask me…
- how I know a book is a good fit for me.
- about the 5 Finger Rule.
- about our read-aloud chapter book, Gooney Bird Greene by Lois Lowry.
- about our school trip to Shelly Ridge and The Schuylkill Center activities with the educator.
- about my small moments writing.
Enjoy the longer weekend! Remember, there is no school on Friday, October 7, or Monday, October 10.
