Primary A Weekly Note

Dear Primary A Families,

It was great to welcome Primary A students back to school! It has been a short, but busy week.

Here are a few highlights:

We read aloud First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. Many of the students were surprised that the nervous character in the story turned out to be the teacher!  We gathered lots of adjectives to describe different “feeling words” and discussed the way we felt about being back in school on our first day. We then wrote and drew about our feelings.

We also read Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes, noticing ways to dive deeply into picture books. We introduced independent reading with several strategies. We are working on building stamina in all we do, and we practiced specifically stamina for Quiet Time and reading time.

We had a lot of fun exploring the park, learning the boundaries, and discussing ways to play safely and fairly. We had a wonderful start on creating a happy, inclusive, thoughtful classroom community.

Here are some reminders for things to send in with your child:

Please make sure you have submitted your child’s dismissal plan; temporary and permanent forms are on the parent portal.

Please send in a water bottle with your child to help him/her easily stay hydrated during the day, as well as a complete change of clothes, in case of emergency.

We go to PE every Tuesday and Friday - please make sure your child has sneakers in school on those days.

Our first trip to the Schuylkill Center is next Wednesday. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately, with long pants, long-sleeved shirt, and sturdy shoes to help us protect from briars and ticks.

“Me Bags” are due on Friday, September 16, 2016. In addition to the bags, please remember to send in a photograph of your family so that we can display them on our classroom wall and get to know all the families, new and old, in our community.

Upcoming Events:

Back-to-School Night is October 5, 2016. We will use this time to share many details about the year!

Each week we include a set of "ask me" prompts for you.

This week, ask me …

  • what books I read this week in school.
  • about Encuentro and the new all-school theme.

Have a great weekend!

In partnership,

Bernadette and Cinda
