Dear Primary B Families,
It was lovely to see you at Back-to-School Night, and we are looking forward to meeting with all of you again for family-teacher conferences on November 2nd and 3rd. Be on the lookout for an email next week with a Doodle Poll link to sign up for a conference.
Although the rain kept us from visiting our country classroom, we were still able to begin our study of rocks and minerals. Our young geologists learned that rocks are commonly described by their color, shape, size, and texture, and we generated a lengthy list of adjectives to specifically describe these characteristics. The children then sorted collections of rocks (which were found right along the Schuylkill River Trail!) based on their common features. Ask your child to tell you about some of the neat rocks he or she examined.
In Reading Workshop this week, students were thrilled to break out our class set of iPads. We used our new gadgets to log on to TumbleBooks, an audiobook site filled with popular children's titles. We are sure your child will be excited to tell you about the books he or she listened to and read online. Here's how to access TumbleBooks at home: scroll to the bottom of the TPS homepage - click "STUDENTS" - click "1st & 2nd Grade" in the left hand column - click the TumbleBooks icon.
We closed the week with our first Family Circles gathering of the year. Be sure to ask your child who his or her Family Group leader is and about the activities he or she participated in today.
Finally, congratulations to the Primary B Student Council candidates who bravely wrote and delivered speeches to our class this afternoon. We are proud of all of you.
Important Dates and Reminders: We will be taking our first field trip of the year on Wednesday, 10/21, to Crystal Cave in Kutztown, PA (http://www.crystalcavepa.com/). Please fill out the permission slip emailed to you today, and return it to school with your child. Feel free to reach out if you are interested in joining us as a chaperone.
Stay dry this weekend!
