Dear Primary B Families,
Another great week in the books! We continued to learn about birds, focusing in particularly on nests and eggs. Our trip to Bartram's Gardens proved to be a great spot for birdwatching. We heard tons of calls, saw a robin's nest with three blue eggs, and even built our own nests! In the classroom, we also learned important facts about nests and eggs and about the varying styles of nests that birds can build. See if your child can show you a few types they learned along with the corresponding hand motions.
Students began studying how characters develop in stories during Reading Workshop. We have started by taking note of authors' descriptions of basic information like name, age, species, etc. along with characters' physical features. Picking up on these details help our students to visualize and relate to the characters involved in the story, and in some cases, better understand the problem. During writing, we tied our ability to pick up on these details in reading to making sure we 'tuck' character descriptions into our writing.
We have really enjoyed seeing the variety of items students have brought in for our share topic of "Something I Made." Our new sharing rotation starts Monday with a "Grab Bag" topic. Please remember school policies – no toys or food.
Ask your child about the Star Wars themed dress up days for May 4th and 5th to see if he/she is interested in participating.
Have a great weekend,
Jordan and Becca
