Dear Primary C Families,
The smell of cornbread has been wafting through our halls as the Primary Unit prepared for next Tuesday’s feast. Students worked together to bake this treat for the entire student body. It was wonderful to watch children work together (one holding the bowl while the other one mixed) to take care of our TPS community.
Today we were treated to a presentation by a real-live pilot. Diron, who pilots for JetBlue, helped children understand how airplanes stay in the sky, adding greater understanding to our Air and Weather Unit. Please check your child’s bookbag for some treats that Diron shared.
This week in math, second graders began working with larger numbers, examining place value and practicing using terms such as greater than, less than, and equal to. Over the next few weeks we will practice finding the difference between two digit numbers by using an open number line. First graders explored fractions, developing their understanding that fractions are equal parts of a whole.
On our Schuylkill Center day, we observed how nature is preparing for winter. Children noticed the changing trees, plants, air, and sounds while noting the differences since our first trip there in September. The Schuylkill Center educators shared their knowledge of how local animals prepare for the winter, and children got to touch many different animal pelts and even wings. While this is our official last week in our country classroom, we hope (pending weather) to go to The Schuylkill Center on Wednesday, December 7. A surprise we have planned for the children is roasting marshmallows over a fire. Listed below are the ingredients of the marshmallows we will purchase. Please let us know if you have any concerns about your child consuming any of these ingredients.
