Primary D Weekly Note

Dear Primary D Families,

Reminder about Halloween: We have reminded our students that there will be no Halloween celebration on Monday, and that no one should come to school in costume.

In Reading Workshop this week students practiced previewing books. Students made predictions by noticing details on the cover, and some students also practiced previewing books by reading the blurb on the back of the book, the author’s note, and the index. Try previewing books at home this weekend when you’re reading together.

In Writing Workshop this week students practiced stretching words out by saying the word and sliding the word on the page before writing it. We practiced the following words as a whole group: carpet, table, friend, spark. When your child is writing at home, encourage him/her to say the word and slide the word on the page and then give it his/her best shot.

Questions you may want to ask your child:

  • What larger-than-life public service from Olive’s dad did we witness out the classroom window this week? (Hint: It involves a Septa bus.)
  • What did you see on your hike on Wednesday at The Schuylkill Center?
  • What did you notice about the wind during the bubble lesson this week?
  • How was your Family Circle gathering on Friday morning?

We are looking forward to seeing you next week at conferences.
