Dear Primary D Families,
We hosted a visiting author this morning in Primary D. Her name is Anna Forrester, and she is a TPS mom. Ask your child about her book and about some bat facts we learned during her visit.
We started book groups in our classroom this week. Ask your child what book he/she read in small groups. With different groups we are working on different skills: making predictions, summarizing, tuning into interesting words, reading dialogue with expression, and investigating word patterns.
Your child began work on an Air and Weather Project this week as a culminating learning experience for our science study. Students are working on models, dioramas, posters, booklets and more. Ask your child what Air and Weather topic his/her project is showcasing.
In first grade math this week we made connections between our facts from 1 to 20 and place value. For example, we looked at the connection between 3+4 and 30+40. We also practiced counting by 5s on an analog clock this week. In second grade math we started a new unit on measurement and place value. Over the next couple of weeks we will experiment with using different tools to measure an assortment of everyday objects.
Reminder: Please remember to pack a fork/spoon in your child’s lunch if he/she will need one.
- We will take one more trip to The Schuylkill Center on Wednesday, December 7. A surprise we have planned for the children is roasting marshmallows over a fire. Please be in touch if you have any concerns about the ingredients in marshmallows. (This was in the Friday note before Thanksgiving.)
- The Winter Concert and Learning Celebration will take place on Tuesday, December 13. The program will start at 9:00 a.m. in the Garage for performances by the Primary Unit Chorus, Third Grade Chorus, and Junior String Ensemble. We will then head over to the classrooms for the Learning Celebration.
