Primary D Weekly Note

Dear Families,

It was another fun and exciting week in Primary D! This morning at Encuentro we attended the Philadelphia Dance Academy’s performance of excerpts from The Nutcracker. This afternoon, an airline pilot paid us a visit. Diron Binns, who is a friend of Bernadette and a JetBlue pilot, shared all there is to know about aviation! The children were fascinated by his presentation and asked so many great questions.

Preparations are under way for our Thanksgiving feast next Tuesday! We are looking forward to gathering in family circles to enjoy a delicious meal. It’s TPS tradition that each unit makes a dish to contribute; Kindergarten makes salad, 3rd Grade and Junior Unit bake brownies, and Middle School makes lasagna. The Primary Unit baked our traditional contribution of cornbread this morning. The children had a great time measuring, pouring, cracking eggs, and stirring the batter. Keep in mind that there will be a gluten-free meal available for kids with food sensitivities. You need not send a lunch next Tuesday unless your child is unable to eat the items on our menu.

We had our first writing celebration of the year on Thursday. The children worked hard to get their writing pieces finished and ready to share. They were excited to share the work with one another. It has been lovely to see how much they have grown as writers.

Wednesday was our final trip to The Schuylkill Center until the spring. (Actually, we are planning one more trip to our country classroom on Wednesday, 12/7. More information on that below.) We started the day by playing and eating lunch in the apple orchard. The children had a blast raking leaves into piles and jumping in! We ended the day with a lesson on animal adaptations to the weather. Our Schuylkill Center educators, Damien and Eduardo, taught a wonderful lesson on how animals survive through the seasons.

We hope (pending weather) to go to The Schuylkill Center on Wednesday, December 7. A surprise we have planned for the children is roasting marshmallows over a fire.
