Early Childhood After School Enrichment Program (ASEP)

The after school programming for preschool and kindergarten takes place in our Early Childhood Educational Center (ECEC) where the students spend the majority of their time during the normal school day. Students start the after school program decompressing from the day and enjoying a snack. Children have ample time for free play in the garden, around working on theme-based projects throughout the year.

 After School Enrichment Program for Grades 1-3 (ASEP)

A typical day in ASEP begins with a snack and an overview of the many options from which to choose. A wide range of fun and creative theme-based activities, integrating visual arts, crafts, science, cooking, and movement, as well as opportunities for quiet time. Students love the freedom of play and choice in alignment with our all-school theme. 

 After School Enrichment Program for Grades 4-5

A range of fun and student centered projects are available, including art, crafts, science, games, and indoor and outdoor physical activities. After snack, Junior Unit students have an opportunity for homework support, before deciding on their activity preference. Together they enjoy the freedom of choice and independence.

The Middle School Extended Day (MSED)

This supervised program is available for middle school students who need to stay past dismissal for academic support or beyond other after school activities, such as music lessons, clubs, or athletics. After a snack, they settle in for an hour of study hall, before the option of a project or indoor/outdoor game. With their busy schedules, our middle school students enjoy some additional independence.

Each year several day-long special programs are offered for students when TPS is closed for teacher conferences or in-service. Programs are held from 9am to 3pm, with an option for extended day coverage at an additional cost. Each year features a new roster of creative themed programs, which have included guest speakers and trips. Special Programs for preschool and kindergarten students do not include off-campus outings. Instead the programs offer age-appropriate, theme-related activities on campus. Information for each program is distributed two to three weeks in advance, with separate registrations required.

The After School Music Program provides weekly music lessons on campus throughout the entire school year. Student musicians are encouraged to be accompanists at student choral concerts and dramatic performances. There are also middle school vocal ensembles, including Measure for Measure, an a cappella group of seventh and eighth graders. ASMP holds several recitals throughout the year to showcase student growth and talent.

Our string program includes two ensembles, the Junior Ensemble for our youngest players and the Sandra Dean String Ensemble for children with more experience. Each year our ensemble players have the opportunity to work with guest coaches from the Philadelphia Orchestra or the Jasper String Quartet. Ensemble groups also perform at neighborhood events, such as the Fitler Square Fair or local assisted living residences.

TPS offers exciting rotations of clubs for those interested in visual and performing arts. Our offerings meet children wherever they are in their skillsets, and provide diverse opportunities for kids to express themselves.

Kindergarten to eighth grade students can enroll in our award-winning Chess Program. Ross Colby, a nationally ranked expert and United States Chess Federation Tournament Director, has coached our team to several national and state championships.

The TPS Chess Program has multiple levels: Rookie, Intermediate, and Tournament. These levels move from learning rules to complex theory, tactics, and analysis. Together students always find time for variant games, including Take Me, Dragon Chess, and Bughouse! 

Some additional strategy related clubs include Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering.

TPS provides club options to explore familiar or new crafts, for students with interest in specific skills or subjects. Exposure to diverse experiences allow students to enhance or discover strengths, while gaining a deeper perspective on the world.

For the kids with endless energy, TPS offers a variety of sports related clubs separate from our competitive middle school athletics teams. Our sports clubs accept kids from different grade levels and welcome beginners and pros alike.
