3A Weekly Note

Dear 3A Parents,

This week 3A writers have been busily working to complete their personal narratives. Most are in editing mode or writing their final copies. We are looking forward to our writing celebration on Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m. We hope you can join us. The children will be reading their stories and talking about the process they went through to write them.

In the wake of the election we have had several good class discussions. Thanks to those of you who have provided your children with thoughtful, reassuring perspectives. They have shared these with the class, and it has been very helpful. We will continue these discussions throughout the course of our theme studies this year.

It's hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is coming up! At TPS we will have our all-school feast on Tuesday, November 22. Middle School cooks lasagna, grades 3-5 make brownies, and Primary Unit makes cornbread. Third grade will do our baking on Monday, November. 21. In order to make our quota of pans of brownies, we need our students to bring in mixing bowls and mixing spoons from home. They will be sent back home at the end of the day. If you do not have equipment you can lend, don't worry -- we only need one bowl for every pair of children. Metal or plastic bowls are preferable, and all bowls and spoons should be labeled with permanent marker or with ink on a piece of tape.

This weekend, ask your child:

  • how his/her writing project is going.
  • what happened in the Lenape creation myth.
  • what a variable is in a math equation.
  • about the botanical drawing s/he did in science.
  • what biodiversity is and why it's important.
  • what envisionment is and how it can help us be stronger readers.
  • About today's performance at Encuentro by Auricolae

Enjoy the weekend!

Miriam and Josh
